Teemu Arina is bezig met het in kaart brengen van de stand van zaken rond Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS). In het rapport "The State of FLOSS and Future Opportunities" ("public draft") beschrijft hij deze stand van zaken, en gaat hij in op toekomstige ontwikkelingen. Een apart hoofdstuk is gewijd aan FLOSS in het onderwijs.
Arina kijkt niet alleen naar software:
"In this paper I will look at the forces behind FLOSS and try to understand it as more than just freely available pieces of source code. For this reason I have tried to look at less developed but related ideas as well, for example Open Content and Commons Content. It is evident that the philosophy and models introduced by FLOSS will be tested with other kinds of virtual goods as well, not just software source code."
