E-learning Review publiceert een bespreking van het artikel Developing a critical view on e-learning trend reports: trend watching or trend setting? van mijn oud studiegenoot Marcel van der Klink en collega’s. Ik kende het artikel niet, ook al is het in 2005 verschenen.
De auteurs bediscussiëren in hun artikel de wijze waarop trendstudies op het gebied van e-learning worden uitgevoerd. Zij hebben een checklist gemaakt waarmee ze vier trendstudies tegen het licht houden. Op z’n zachtst gezegd is behoorlijk wat aan te merken op de uitgevoerde onderzoeken. Hun -mijns inziens- ‘dodelijke’ conclusie luidt:
With this exploration, we do not intend, and are not in the position, to criticize either the writers or the users of the trend reports. Our only message is to note that the effect of these trend reports is rather the setting than the watching of trends. Without a close look at the methodology used, most actors in this field cite these reports rather uncritically. The effect is an increase in status and hence credibility of the reports.
